On January 31, eight members of the Okinawa Peoples' Council for Promotion of the National Flag and Anthem visited the Consulate General and presented a certificate to Deputy Consul General Carmela Conroy in connection with the January 17 mishap involving an F-15 from Kadena Air Base. The framed certificated noted the accident resulted in no loss of life or damage to property, thanks to the skill and bravery of the pilot.
Tadahisa Megumi, Council chairman, told Consul Conroy that his group was small but represented a portion of Okinawan society that appreciated the U.S. military contribution to the U.S.-Japan alliance.
