Ambassador Schieffer meets with Governor Inamine

February 13, 2006

On Monday, February 13, Ambassador Schieffer met with Governor Inamine at the residence of Consul General Thomas G. Reich.

They talked about the ceremony to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Okinawan Immigrants to Peru. They also talked about the Motobu Aquarium that the Ambassador had visited over the weekend.

They also had a very good discussion about DPRI. The Governor said that he could accept DPRI with the exception of one issue - Futenma relocation.

The Governor explained that the Futenma Issue is and has been "very important" to Okinawans for a long time. The two had a frank discussion about it and pledged to continue to work together to resolve any differences.

Noted Ambassador Schieffer: "I enjoyed meeting the Governor. It was a positive meeting, and I look forward to continuing to work with him in the future."
