
Aug. 25, Naha – Consul General Raymond Green arrived at post and officially assumed the duties of principal officer today. Prior to his current assignment, Mr. Greene served as chief of the Political-Military Affairs Unit at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo from 2006-2009. Prior to that, he worked at the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the first Baker-Kato U.S.-Japan Diplomatic Exchange Fellow (2005-2006). From 2002-2005, Mr. Greene was Deputy Chief of the Political Section at the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT). He has also been assigned as a political officer at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo and a rotational officer at the U.S. Embassy in Manila, Philippines.
Before joining the foreign service, Mr. Greene was a researcher at the Institute for International Economics (IIE) in Washington, D.C., and from 1992-1993 he participated in the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program in Yokohama. Mr. Greene holds a B.A. and M.P.M. from the University of Maryland, College Park. He also studied for one year at the International Christian University (ICU) in Tokyo and completed the State Department Foreign Service Institute's two-year Advanced Chinese language and Area Studies Program.
Mr. Greene is the recipient of the Secretary of Defense Meritorious Civilian Service Award and two State Department Superior Honor Awards. He is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations. His foreign languages are Japanese and Mandarin Chinese. He is married to the former Yawen Ko.
