June 29-July 1, Agana, Guam – Consul General Kevin Maher and the staff of Consulate General Naha’s Public Affairs section lead a group of seven Okinawan reporters on a fact finding mission to Guam. While on the island, reporters visited military installations and saw the sites where Japanese money would be used to strengthen the infrastructure prior to the arrival of 8000 marines and their dependants as a part of the Futenma Relocation Project.
Reporters were briefed my Mr. John Jackson, head of the Joint Guam Programs Office and had the opportunity to ask detailed questions about the project. They also spent a great deal of time with the Consul General who provided the US perspective on many issues related to the project. Articles generated from the visit are already appearing in the local media.
