Dr. Fred Kaplan discusses the speaking styles of Presidents Obama and Lincoln

Naha, May 28 - Dr. Fred Kaplan, author of numerous biographies on English writers and most recently a book on President Abraham Lincoln called "Lincoln: The Biography of a Writer" visited Okinawa to discuss the ways in which Presidents Lincoln and Obama both use the English language to achieve their policy goals. His hour long talk cited numerous examples in which both presidents used their skills as orators to increase public understanding of important policy goals and pointed out instances in which President Obama’s rhetorical style closely matches that of President Lincoln.

From Okinawa, Dr. Kaplan will go on to speak at other American centers around Japan.
