Naha, March 19-21 - The U.S. Consulate Naha invited Regional English Language Officer Dr. Michael Rudder to participate in support of the Okinawa Prefectural Board of Education and the Okinawa Prefectural Senior High School English Teachers' Association's Forum on English Education in Okinawa. Dr. Rudder delivered a keynote address on "The Importance of English in a Global Society" to approximately 200 teachers, students of English, and program administrators.

Dr. Rudder also conducted a workshop on "Motivation: the Key to Success" to a group of about 40 English language instructors. The presentations generated a productive discussion of the English language education issues relevant to the audience. The education assistant from the Consulate, Mr. Akinori Hayashi, distributed complimentary copies of "English Teaching FORUM" to all the participants.
