American Voices Hip Hop Dancers Teach Urban Dance to Okinawan Youth

March 15-16, Chatan, Okinawa - Three Hip Hop Dancers with the American Voices Program visited Okinawa this weekend to work with Okinawan youth. The program, sponsored by the American Consulate General in Naha, included two events: A one-day workshop where Okinawan Youth worked directly with the dancers on movement, choreography and other technical aspects of Urban Dance, and then a public performance featuring both students and teachers the following day.

The dancers, Michael Park Masterson, Quae Simpson and Brian Jones, each hail from different parts of the United States but were drawn together by love of dance and a desire to teach. Each dancer has an extensive resume with years of experience covering many different kinds of dance, including Broadway and Ballet. From Naha, the three will next go to Sapporo and on to China.
