Fulbright Professor Addresses on American and Japanese Architectural Heritage

On July 10, Dr. Chester Liebs, Fulbright visiting Professor from the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Urban Engineering, addressed 32 architects on the subject of American and Japanese architectural heritage. The program was co-sponsored by the American Consulate General and the Okinawa Branch of Japan Institute of Architects (JIA) in celebration of the 10th anniversary for the establishment of JIA's Okinawa Branch Office.

Dr. Liebs' presentation was a rare opportunity for the Okinawan architects to broaden their understanding of how building design and landscapinghave evolved throughout history in both the U.S. and Japan. After the presentation, the JIA Okinawa Branch Office hosted a roundtable discussion and dinner for Mr. Liebs to exchange professional views and, on July 10 and 11, escorted him to various sites significant to Okinawa's own architectural heritage.
