American Lawyer Supports Japanese "Saiban-in" System

On June 29, Robert Precht, an attorney and Director of the Juries and Democracy Center at The Mansfield Center, visited Okinawa to speak at the University of the Ryukyus Graduate School of Law on "Analysis of the U.S. Jury System and Possible Lessons for Japan." with an audience of approximately 45 university law professors and students. Dr. Tetsumi Takara, Dean of the Ryudai Graduate School of Law, served as moderator. Note: Consulate General Naha has been supporting the law school through such speaker programs since its establishment in 2005.

While on Okinawa, Precht also spoke before 11 members of the Okinawa legal profession at the Consulate General. Also in attendance were three employees of the Consulate General, two of whom are lawyers themselves.
