Consul General visits Ishigaki and Miyako

On May 11-13, Consul General Kevin Maher visited Ishigaki and Miyako islands. On May 11, he formally donated more than 400 books about the United States to the Ishigaki City Library. To commemorate the event, that evening, American ragtime pianist Bob Milne performed before approximately 400 people at the Ishigaki City Civic Hall. Afterwards, Consul General Maher hosted a dinner for Ishigaki City Mayor Nagateru Ohama.

On May PQ, the Consul General and members of his party flew to Miyako Island where he conducted a courtesy call on Mayor Akira Ishimine. That same evening, Consul General Maher introduced Mr. Milnefs performance before more than 300 guests at the Miyakoshima City Central Public Hall.

While on the outer islands, Consul General Maher also conducted interviews with local media representatives. On Miyakojima, he reiterated the right of U.S. forces to use Shimojima Airport.

On May 13, Consul General Maher hosted a concert by Mr. Milne at his residence for approximately 60 Okinawan and American guests.
