"Okinawa Question" Co-author Visits Okinawa

On May 8-9, Associate Professor Mike Mochizuki of George Washington University visited Okinawa for a series of programs. Soon after arrival, Mochizuki spoke before thirty participants in the Consulate General's ninth benkyokai for local journalists and U.S. base public affairs officers on the theme of "Different Beds, Same Dreams: The U.S.-Japan Alliance and East Asia Security." Afterwards, Mochizuki, accompanied by Consul General Kevin Maher, conducted a courtesy call on Okinawa Governor Hirokazu Nakaima. That same evening, Consul General Maher hosted a dinner for Mochizuki with guests including Ryukyu University Professors Kurayoshi Takara and Tsuneo Oshiro, National Graduate Institute For Policy Studies Professor Akikazu Hashimoto, Okinawa Prefectural Assembly members Konosuke Kokuba, Toru Odo andHiroshi Goya, and Colonel Mark Franklin of the U.S. Military's Okinawa Area Field Office (OAFO).
