Consulate General Supports Island Basketball

On Jan. 26-28, the American Consulate General co-sponsored a basketball tournament with the Okinawa Basketball Association and the Department of Defense Dependent Schools System (DODDS). A total of 16 Japanese and American boys and girls' teams participated in the tournament held at Kadena High School, Kadena Middle School and Amelia Earhart Elementary School.

More than 1,000 players, coaches, friends and family attended the championship games of the three-day event.

During the awards ceremony, Consul General Kevin Maher presented players from Kubasaki High School with the first place boys' trophy. Konan High School finished in second place. In the girls' division, Futenma High School won first place; Kadena High School finished in second place. Finishing third in the tourney were Kadena High School (boys) and Chinen High School (girls).
