On May 12-15, Dr. Scott Slovic, University of Nevada professor of literature and environment, visited Okinawa at the invitation of the Consulate General to help inaugurate Ryukyu University’s new doctoral program in comparative culture and area studies. While on the island, Dr. Slovic conducted a workshop on English literature for 9 Ryudai doctoral program faculty members and a workshop on eco-criticism for 15 professors and students at the Ryudai American Studies Center. This was followed by a lecture on American higher education at the lecture hall for 50 faculty members. In addition, Ryudai President Morita hosted a dinner reception in honor of Dr. Slovic.
