| The U.S. Consulate General Naha, with the support of the Embassy Foreign Commercial Service (FCS) and the Okinawa Trailer Park Development and Promotion Association, sponsored a U.S. imported trailer housing seminar on February 3 in Itoman, Okinawa. Approximately 30 people attended. This was a follow up to a similar November 18, 2005 program held at the Consulate General.
In his opening remarks, Naha Consulate General Economic/Commercial Officer Frank Stanley noted that Okinawa hosted more than 5.4 million tourists in 2005 -- with even more guests expected in the new year. That, and the growing number of mainland Japanese retirees to Okinawa, offered Okinawa business people a variety of opportunities for use of U.S. built trailer housing on the island.
During the dayfs program, participants had an opportunity to hear detailed information on American trailer housing from FCS Senior Commercial Specialist Koji Sudo and Mr. Hiroyuki Ushio, president of the Okinawa Trailer Park Development and Promotion Association. In addition, they toured a U.S. model trailer house set up on the site of the seminar at Nashiro Beach. A local television crew also covered the seminar for its evening news program. |
