[Go to Japanese]

December 21-22, 2006

On December 21-22, American Poet Shulamith Wechter Caine visited the island to give poetry readings at Meio University and at Ryukyu University. The event in Nago was a keynote founder's day program at Meio University. After the program, Public Affairs Officer Frank Stanley hosted a dinner for Caine and her spouse, Temple University Constitutional Law Professor Burton Caine, at a local restaurant.

In Naha, Ms. Caine spoke for more than two hours before 10 enthusiastic Ryudai English majors who are currently studying American poetry. She concluded her program by presenting Ryukyu University with a signed copy of a collection of her earlier works.
