Ambassador Roos Visits Okinawa
May 15 - Ambassador John V. Roos completed a two-day visit to Okinawa to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Okinawa's reversion to Japan. The Ambassador met with Okinawa Governor Nakaima and also spoke at Okinawa International University.

May 12—High school students from 8 Okinawan and 2 U.S. Base schools competed in mixed teams to create manga best celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Japan’s gift of cherry trees to the U.S.
